SUMMARY:Paris Stalingrad
DESCRIPTION:In partnership the University of Kent’s Paris postgraduate arts festival « Escapism »\n🎙️ Followed by a Q&A with the director! \n☞ SUMMARY: \n🎞️ FILM: ‘Paris Stalingrad’ directed by Hind Meddeb (86min)\n🎬 DATE & TIME: Thursday 3 June @8PM\, Q&A @9:30PM\n📽️ CINEMA: HOME – available anywhere in France!\n🎟 TICKETS: €6 Link for France: 🇫🇷 https://sallevirtuelle.25eheure.com/seance/9647 \n☞ DETAILS: \nThe University of Kent is proudly partnering with Lost in Frenchlation in the co-ordination of a film screening as part of their Paris Postgraduate Arts festival. Paris is among the world’s top tourist destinations\, known as the City of Light. But it’s also a destination for refugees fleeing poverty and persecution. During the summer of 2016\, filmmaker Hind Meddeb and her co-director Thim Naccache trained their cameras on an area unseen by most tourists\, the community of refugees sleeping on the streets in the district named Stalingrad. Followed by a Q&A with the director! \n☞THE MOVIES: \nSummer 2016\, Paris\, refugees are camping in the Stalingrad district. The film follows their daily life and reveals a hidden part of the city\, by the side of the invisible ones. A physical labyrinth added to the bureaucratic labyrinth already in place – the city turns away. Controls\, round-ups\, police raids\, fencing. How can you live in a space that prevents you from existing? From out of the group\, the camera follows Souleymane\, a young refugee from Darfur\, whose poems transfigure the violence of the situation. – Synopsis \n« French director Hind Meddeb offers a humanist and committed documentary on the fate of homeless migrants trapped on the streets of Paris. » Cineuropa \nWatch the trailer here with English subtitles here: https://vimeo.com/350572857 \n☞THE PLAN: \nWant to participate? Sign up today on: https://www.25eheure.com/\nSelect « Paris Stalingrad »\, Lost in Frenchlation and the June 3rd session.\nAs this is a local e-cinema platform and not a streaming platform\, you will be asked to geolocate yourself\, in order to respect the platform’s charter which limits the radius to France and Belgium only. Once you have purchased your e-ticket\, you will receive a connection link by email and all you will have to do is connect on the day of the screening\, a few minutes before the start of the film. \nA word from the festival: ‘Paris-Stalingrad’ offers a powerful insight into the truth behind modern day immigration and the hardships faced by those seeking to escape their circumstances and find refuge in Paris. It was the perfect choice for the festival’s core theme of Escapism\, as it provides a multifaceted insight into the human rights struggles that exist for disenfranchised peoples on a global scale. It also provides an interesting and much needed comparison to the romanticised versions of escapism we explore in our other events. We want to use this screening to bring the due attention to ‘Paris-Stalingrad’\, whose themes are particularly relevant during this time where immigration politics are at the forefront of many shifting political bodies across the globe. \nClick here (https://www.facebook.com/events/223856165787284/) to see the Facebook Event. \n🎬 The Lost in Frenchlation\, University of Kent and 25e Heure Team
