For Father’s Day, join our special double bill followed by a Q&A about French & British comedies with screenwriter Aschlin Ditta! You will have the opportunity to answer one of the most pressing questions of our time: who looks better in swimming trunks, Rob Brydon or Mathieu Amalric? As the strange affair of these two synchronised films show, in Britain and in France, life, like the movies, can be a rough case of sink or swim…

☞THE MOVIES:

So, both films are about a male synchronised swimming team and, it turns out, both are based on a Swedish film that became a British documentary. Confused?

“We were in prep, getting close to shooting, when we heard about the French one,” says Oliver Parker, the director of ‘Swimming With Men.’ “It was a little bit of a worry, but we did quite like the idea that synchronised-swimming films could be synchronised!”

“Of course, the odd thing is that this is a very English type of movie. In fact, we don’t make films like this in France, you know, the social comedy, you’re the experts in it, so I took all my inspiration from your cinema.“ – Gilles Lellouche, director of ‘Le Grand Bain’.

Screenwriter Aschlin Ditta (author of ‘Swimming with Men’ and ‘French Film’, A comedy about how French and English cultures differ in their attitudes on relationships) will be there to answer all of your questions after the screening!
