☞ DETAILS:
We are very honored to welcome the director of the film Éric Barbier and French singer/writer Gaël Faye for this very special screening! The translation of Petit pays into thirty languages and its five French literary prizes attest to the universal appeal of this first novel. The film adaptation plunges us into the heart of Burundi in 1992 as the tragedy of the Rwandan civil war comes to light – this is the first fiction story about the genocide.
☞THE MOVIE:
Gabriel, aged 10, lives in a comfortable ex-pat neighborhood in Burundi, his “small country”. Gabriel is a normal kid, happy, carefree and having adventures with his friends and little sister. Then in 1993 tensions in neighboring Rwanda spill over, threatening his family and his innocence. – Plot
« Petit Pays » is a tribute to those lost, a lesson for those who remain, a cry for those who suffer, and a hope for our collective future. – PopMatters
