Acquired by Netflix, accused of hypersexualization, the film has sparked a lot of controversy in the US. However, we at Lost in Frenchlation think that “Depiction does not equal endorsement”, and art should be able to address taboos without necessarily advocating for them… Why not see for yourself on November 6th?

It is not for nothing that the movie won an award at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival. Directed by Maïmouna Doucouré as her feature directorial debut, the movie is funny, heartwarming, thrilling, even nostalgic in parts, and holds the power to move you to tears. It is a truly raw portrayal of the coming of age experience of girls growing up in traditionally orthodox households — eager to break out of societal confines but lost in the real world.

The screening will take place at Club de l’Étoile cinema, located a short walk from the world-famous Arc de Triomphe. At 6:30pm, the screening begins. End at 8pm to allow enough time to go home before the 9pm curfew.
