Just in time to inspire your own summer adventures, Lost In Frenchlation is proud to present our fourth film in our classics series, “L’Homme de Rio.” Fast-paced and uproariously funny, the story follows the charming couple of Jean-Paul Belmondo and Françoise Dorléac as they race through Rio in search of a hidden treasure. One of the key inspirations to the ‘Indiana Jones’ franchise, this James Bond-spoof was nominated for an Oscar for Best Writing, Story and Screenplay in 1964.

French military man Adrien Dufourquet (Jean-Paul Belmondo) gets an eight-day furlough to visit his fiancée, Agnès (Françoise Dorléac). But when he arrives in Paris, he learns that her late father’s partner, museum curator Professor Catalan (Jean Servais), has just been kidnapped by a group of Amazon tribesmen who have also stolen a priceless statue from the museum. Adrien and Agnes pursue the kidnappers to Brazil, where they learn that the statue is the key to a hidden Amazon treasure. – Plot

“It’s visual poetry of the most basic sort, and it may evoke a line by Agnès from earlier in the film: “How can you be blasé amid all these wonders?”” – Roger Ebert

The screening will take place at Club de l’Étoile cinema, located a short walk from the world-famous Arc de Triomphe! We will be offering a variety of French-inspired drinks and popcorn during our cocktail hour from 6:30pm and start the screening at 7:30pm.

Lost in Frenchlation and Ciné-Balade have teamed up to bring you a two hour walk into the history of cinema around the Eiffel Tower, the star among the stars, and the district of Passy. Many international movies were shot here including “Mission Impossible” this year, not far from the location of “Inception” with Leonardo DiCaprio. You will learn about the beginning of cinema invented by the Lumière Brothers and how it is linked to the Eiffel Tower and the World’s Fair. We will also talk about French movies like “The Last Metro” by François Truffaut or “Peur sur la Ville” with Jean-Paul Belmondo. The story of these famous places and what filmmakers are looking for when they use them will be our main thread. The walk starts at 5pm and lasts for approximately 1 hour and a half. ☞ LIMITED TICKETS:

Run, don’t walk, to catch this treasure of an action classic!
