📽DETAILS:

Chris Marker and Pierre Lhomme take viewers back in time with the French Documentary “Le Joli Mai”. By incorporating multiple interviews from various Parisian citizens, this documentary delivers daily life in France during the 1960s to viewers in a way that unpacks unfiltered opinions and thoughts about the political and cultural state of France in the past. This film is a must see for all new wave fans and Parisian lovers!

🎥THE MOVIE:

A month in a town, May 1962, Paris is pictured by Chris Marker and his team, close to the pavement and the people’s faces. “In this first month of peace for seven year”, the Algerian war just ended with the Evian agreement, what are the Parisians doing, what are they thinking? War and politics? Everyone is avoiding the matters, the interviewer is surprised: why the French, who usually loves to discuss, are so muted? – Plot

“With Le Joli Mai, the result is a great and absorbing film that leaves a sordid taste of stifled rage, a frustration that doesn’t even dare to reveal its fury.” – The New Yorker

“Le Joli Mai captures the spirit of a populace at what was then the first quantifiable period of peacefulness in well over a generation.” – Slant Magazine
