French director Sarah Marx was one of the best filmmakers to be unearthed at this year’s Venice Film Festival. « K Contraire » cleverly takes prison drama clichés and unravels them by juxtaposing the world behind bars with the harsh realities of life in unusual and fresh ways. Sandor Funtek (Blue is the Warmest Colour) delivers a breakthrough performance as Ulysse, giving the character both humanity and determination, while remaining believable as a criminal embarking on an odyssey. Special screening with Q&A on February 28th!

Fresh out of jail, ULYSSE has only one idea in mind: making money. Confronted by his depressed mother, GABRIELLE, the bills that never stop piling up and his desire to live his life to the full, he makes a plan. With his best friend, DAVID, he’ll travel from rave to rave, selling a mixture of water and Ketamine from their food truck. Together, they hit the road… – Plot

We are offered a window into the world of each of the characters, none forgotten, as Marx asks us to consider what it means to be imprisoned, not by wire or walls, but by what life can throw at us. – Eye for Film

The screening will take place at Club de l’Étoile cinema, located a short walk from the world-famous Arc de Triomphe! We will be offering a variety of French-inspired drinks and popcorn during our cocktail hour from 7pm. After the 8pm screening, we will have a Q&A with the main actor! Tickets available both online and at the cinema.

Lost in Frenchlation and Ciné-Balade have teamed up to bring you a two hour walk into the history of cinema around the Eiffel Tower, the star among the stars, and the district of Passy. Many international movies were shot here including “Mission Impossible” this year, not far from the location of “Inception” with Leonardo DiCaprio. You will learn about the beginning of cinema invented by the Lumière Brothers and how it is linked to the Eiffel Tower and the World’s Fair. We will also talk about French movies like “The Last Metro” by François Truffaut or “Peur sur la Ville” with Jean-Paul Belmondo. The story of these famous places and what filmmakers are looking for when they use them will be our main thread. The walk starts at 5pm and lasts for approximately 2 hours:

Enjoy this compelling feature from the emerging female director Sarah Marx – and discuss it with main actor Sandor Funtek afterwards!
