Love, literature, and lost illusions.
This historical drama plays on all strings when it comes to capturing the writer Lucien’s life and dilemmas. The year is 1821 (exactly two centuries ago) and the mass-printed press has just started to gain a footing in France. It is especially driven forward by articles of intrigues and conflicts – articles that Lucien is great at providing. But are they all true? Illusions Perdues is based on the great novel series by Honoré de Balzac between 1837 and 1843.
Young poet Lucien dreams about a great career of writing. One day he moves to the city and gets a job at a newspaper. He is good at it and soon celebrated for his stories. However, as a poet entering the field of journalism, he is constantly challenged by his desire to write dramatic and eye-catching stories for the press. But how much can poetry and journalism blend before it becomes fake news? – synopsis
“Lost Illusions provide a fun, provocative, hilarious, and at times even moving rags-to-riches tale with a protagonist and a setting we have not seen before” – Collider
“With its stellar performances, dramatic orchestral score and rich costume and set design, Illusions Perdues is a worthwhile, sweeping narrative of love, lust and literary ambition” – Hollywood Reporter
