We are celebrating International Women’s Day by screening ClĂ©o de 5 Ă  7 as the first film in our classics series. This will honor the composer, Michel Legrand, who recently passed. Beforehand, there will be an optional walking tour featuring spots from the film. With a female director and female stars, this film uses a strong feminine viewpoint to explore the meanings of life and death, and deals with important questions about society’s perceptions of women.

AgnĂšs Varda eloquently captures Paris in the sixties with this real-time portrait of a singer (Corinne Marchand) set adrift in the city as she awaits test results of a biopsy. A chronicle of the minutes of one woman’s life, ClĂ©o from 5 to 7 is a spirited mix of vivid vĂ©ritĂ© and melodrama, featuring a score by Michel Legrand and cameos by Jean-Luc Godard and Anna Karina. – Plot

‱THE PLAN:
 
The screening will take place at Club de l’Étoile cinema, located a short walk from the world-famous Arc de Triomphe! We will be offering an optional cinema walking tour at 5:30pm and a variety of French-inspired drinks and popcorn during our cocktail hour from 7pm and start the screening at 8.
 
‱☆OPTIONAL MOVIE TOUR☆
 
On March 9, one day after International Women’s Day, Lost in Frenchlation and CinĂ©-Balade will team together to celebrate one of the greatest French directors, “the grandmother of New Wave”, AgnĂšs Varda. Through the streets of Montparnasse, Denfert and Vavin, we will travel to the filming locations of her films and in particular the very feminist “ClĂ©o from 5 to 7” which will be screened afterwards by Lost in Frenchlation. Being a local for more than 60 years, Varda likes to say that by understanding the people, we better understand the place, and by understanding the place, we can better understand the people. So let’s go to the discovery of AgnĂšs and ClĂ©o by viewing film clips in an open-air setting. We won’t forget to pay homage to Michel Legrand, her longtime friend, who had composed and acted for the movie of our evening.
