This year’s Francophonie Day will be celebrated with a virtual screening of « Speak Up » followed by a Q&A with the film crew! Set in the University of Saint Denis, just outside Paris, it follows a class of young people as they embark on a thirty-day challenge to prepare for a public speaking competition. Speak Up reveals that there may be a new, far more ethnically diverse generation ready to step up and take the reins. You just have to listen to them.
« Every year the University of Saint-Denis holds the “Eloquentia” contest, which aims to elect “the best speaker of the 93”. Students from this university come from all backgrounds and decide to take part and prepare for it thanks to professionals (lawyers, directors, etc.) who teach them the difficult exercise of public speaking. As the weeks go by, they learn the basics rhetoric, become more confident, reveal themselves to others, and especially to themselves. Armed with these weapons, Leila, Elhadj, Eddy and the others try to win the contest hoping become “the best speaker of the 93”. » – Synopsis
« Uplifting and authentic. » – The Hollywood Reporter

Select « À Voix Haute », Lost in Frenchlation and the March 20th session.
As this is a local e-cinema platform and not a streaming platform, you will be asked to geolocate yourself, in order to respect the platform’s charter which limits the radius to France, Belgium and UK only. Once you have purchased your e-ticket, you will receive a connection link by email and all you will have to do is connect on the day of the screening, a few minutes before the start of the film.
The French have always had a way with words, which is why the annual college concours Eloquentia, or eloquence competitions, seem to have the same status there that the Final Four does in the U.S. Don’t miss your chance to ask all your questions after the screening to the film crew!
