What is a woman, a man, a mother, a father? Lately our conception of this has been challenged and changed. This film dares to take the touchy conversation a step further by asking: What if a trans father carries a baby? How will he perceive his own identity? And how will the people around him react?
‘A Good Man’ leaves the audience in deep thoughts and perhaps with unanswered questions. We are therefore happy to announce that the director, Marie-Castille Mention-Schaar, will be present after the film to answer these and share the thoughts behind the film.
“When his girlfriend can’t get pregnant, trans man, Benjamin, decides to carry the child in her stead. Benjamin is still transitioning and getting pregnant is not without consequences. ‘You ask me questions, but I don’t have the answers. I don’t know where we’re going either. I don’t know how people will react, how I will react,’ he frames it quite precisely at one point in the film. Benjamin is beautifully played by Noémie Merlant (star of Portrait of a Lady on Fire).” – Synopsis
“An excellent script (…) and a remarkable performance from Noémie Merlant in the role of Benjamin, well supported by Soko” – Cineuropa
