France, 1770. A painter is sent to an isolated island to capture the likeness of a reluctant bride. HΓ©loΓ―se won’t pose, so Marianne is hired to act as her companion by day and paint her from memory by night. What begins as a hidden assignment becomes an intense study of glances and stolen moments, as the artist finds herself captivated by the woman she is meant to document.

The history of French queer cinema is rich and diverse. During June 2026 in Parisβ€”Pride Monthβ€”Lost in Frenchlation presents a series of films dedicated to French queer culture and lives. The series showcases a range of films from leading queer French-speaking filmmakers. Time-honored filmmakers such as CΓ©line Sciamma, Christophe HonorΓ©, Alain Guiraudie, Robin Campbillo, and Xavier Dolan are included in the program along with a new generation of French queer filmmakers such as Anna Cazenave Cambet and Hafsia Herzi. Through dramas and comedies, their films explore lesbian relationships, trans lives, β€œcoming-out,” AIDS, and the pleasures of being queer.
