Inspired by her own daughter, French filmmaker and writer Lisa Azuelos recognizes the unappreciated hardships and triumphs of motherhood and parenting through a laughable lense with the family comedy Sweetheart. Azuelos works with her daughter, who also stars in the film, to empower women by exploring the complex relationship between mother and daughter and the struggles of “empty nest syndrome.”

Heloise’s youngest daughter, Jade, is leaving the nest. As Jade’s high school graduation approaches, Heloise is thrown into existential crisis. How could her baby, her “Sweetheart”, already be so old? Tender memories of Jade’s childhood clash with the young woman she sees before her. Desperate to document every detail before Jade goes to university, Heloise disappears behind her iPhone. She is so consumed by recording videos she almost forgets to live in the here and now, and enjoy the intimacy of their special mother-daughter bond. – Plot

The screening will take place at Club de l’Étoile cinema, located a short walk from the world-famous Arc de Triomphe! We will be offering a variety of French-inspired drinks and snacks during our cocktail hour from 7pm with a special Mother’s Day offer. If your bring your mother or daughter to the screening you get a FREE DRINK! Before the 8:30pm screening, we will have a STANDUP COMEDY SHOW, in English, at 8:00pm. Our comedy night features Sarah Donnelly from the show “Becoming Maman”. Tickets available both online and at the cinema.
