Lost in Frenchlation and the London International Documentary Festival (LIDF) have teamed up to bring you ‘Le Concours’ which won Best Documentary on Cinema award at the Venice Film Festival this year, and we are very pleased to announce that the director Claire Simon will be with us to discuss the film!
Le Concours shows the admission process of the most prestigious french film school, la Fémis, located just a few steps away from Studio 28 in Montmartre on the site of the former Pathé studios, and whose alumni include art house heavyweights Francois Ozon and Arnaud Desplechin. In a place of culture where generations intermingle, how do professionals determine who gets in and who doesn’t?
‘It is a journey that has been captured from the inside by Claire Simon in The Graduation, a film which was put together with warm simplicity and is utterly captivating.’ – Cineuropa
With ‘The Graduation’, the director will delve into the daily life of the Parisian cinema school, la Fémis, where a specific Republican ideal of excellence is practiced and entry into which can be summed up as follows: “everyone’s equal, but only the best get in…” Through the admission process, the hard work all year and the graduation exams, The Graduation will establish a portrait of our relationship to excellence in the Art world and of one of the most prestigious art school in France.
